Ok. So, its 95 degrees out, with a heat index that's over 100. Obviously, the thing to do is go hiking, right?
"Makes perfect sense," she says with sarcasm.
Somehow, my husband convinced me that going hiking in the canyons of Starved Rock on Sunday would be cooler than hanging out around our house. And he thought that Moxie should come along too. And the answer to your question is, "Yes. Yes, we were crazy."
Although on the hike to the top of Starved Rock, I doubted Dave's judgement...
We all kept drinking lots of water, and doused Moxie with cold water too.
Dave was right about the canyons. They were a LOT cooler. We only hiked to the two canyons that were the closest. The kids and Moxie had a great time! It was beautiful!
Moxie was like a celebrity. So many people stopped us on the trail to give her some attention. She loved swimming in all of the pools of water she could find, and climbed up almost everything the kids did.
That's Henry in the middle of that picture, feeling small!
After Starved Rock, we stopped by Uncle Gary and Aunt Sue's house. They live right on the Illinois River. It's absolutely beautiful there. Even though we called very last minute to ask if we could come by, they were so gracious! We paddle boated, drank sherbet shakes, played with their dogs, saw baby ducks, and when it was time to go, they sent us home with lots of veggies from their garden!
I am really glad we decided to spend our Sunday the way we did! :)
