A Super-Excited Spiderman and a Very Tolerant Pumpkin
Evan and I went shopping for his Halloween costume this morning. Surprise, surprise...He wanted to be Spiderman. He LOOOOOOOVVVVES his costume. He ran around in it all morning, and then put it right by his bed so that as soon as he wakes up, he can put it back on ASAP.

She never fails to welcome us home with wild abandon...
...no matter how long we've been gone, be it an entire school day, or just 10 minutes.
There is nothing like walking in the door to a beloved dog's welcome, or seeing my children revel in it. :)

80's Fashion, Dave-Style
Although he dresses himself very well now that he is 43, my husband has definitely committed some fashion faux pas in his time. His brother recently shared evidence of this with us through these pictures...
He did great when his mom dressed him (in the 70'). ;) Can you tell which one is Dave? He's the fifth from the left, or the one on the left of Ralphie (Christmas Story). (I jest.) Pretty cute, huh?
But when Dave started dressing himself, oh my. Girls must have thought, "Who is that cool dude (note the sign) with the hat? He wears it in such a jaunty way!" And wow, those shorts. I'm not even sure what to say about those.
The last three pictures came from a family vacation when he was a teenager. He's in the middle of the picture wearing blue shorts. Nice abs, huh? Good thing he had those...
Without those abs, he wouldn't have looked quite as good in his Cubs cropped t-shirt. Niiiiiccce, Dave. And then...again with the hat.
What were Dave's thoughts when his brother asked if he wanted a set of these pictures? Here's what he said:

Turning 40 ain't so bad...
...especially when you family spoils you like mine did!
My mom and dad watched our four kids and dog (who was a little under the weather) so that Dave and I could spend the night in Chicago. My sister, Lisa, arranged for us to spend the night at a beautiful hotel downtown on the "magnificent mile". What a treat to have such an amazing date with my favorite husband!
Dave took me out to his clients' gourmet Mexican restaurant, Salpicon. (Click here to visit their site.) YUMMMMM! It's a 3 1/2 star restaurant, and has gotten excellent reviews. I can't wait to go back!
We then walked around a bit to take in the sights of the city, and then wound up in a piano bar. We haven't done anything like this in a long time, and I enjoyed every minute of it.
When we came home, my mom, dad and the kids had decorated,
made cards,
baked cakes (and sprinkled the heck out of them :) ),
and made dinner.
See what I mean? They all spoiled me, and I loved it!

A Photo Fix
As I told you yesterday, we took some family pictures at the arboretum yesterday hoping to get one to use for our Christmas card. As many of you know, it is next to IMPOSSIBLE to get a picture full of young kids where everyone is smiling, looking in the right direction, not blinking, not jabbing a sibling, not making a goofy face, not picking their nose, etc.
So yesterday, I was so happy when the stars aligned, and after we took many, MANY pictures, we wound up with three good ones. One of them was this one.
While it's not perfect, it comes close. Everyone is looking in the same direction,no one was squinting, and the fall colors look beautiful. There's only one problem...Henry was blinking. Ugh. Now, I can crop and fix pictures pretty well, but I've never tried what this picture needed: a whole head transplant. I wanted to replace Henry's head in this picture with his head from another picture. My brother-in-law knows how to do that, so I emailed him and asked for his help.

A Beautiful Fall Day with Family
Wow. It could NOT have been a more perfect fall day to be at the arboretum. The temperature was just right to comfortably wear a light sweater, the fall colors were BEAUTIFUL on the trees, and the company we were with we LOVE (my parents and my brother).
My brother's birthday was yesterday, so the kids made him special coloring book cards like the ones he made for their birthdays. He turned 27, and had commemorated his birthday by running 27 miles yesterday. Perhaps I'll run 40 for my birthday on Tuesday. (Or maybe not.) :)
We rode a tram around the arboretum to see all of the beautiful colors.
And then my brother found the perfect spots for us to take a family picture. Hmmm...maybe a Christmas card out of this bunch?
My mom says something like, "The photographer never gets to be in the picture." However, she says it in a much catchier way. I'm always taking pictures of Dave with the kids, so it's nice to have one of me with them too!
